Sport Pilot Certificate
The Sport Pilot Certificate is an FAA pathway created to make flying more accessible, affordable, and enjoyable for new aviators. With the updated Mosaic regulations, the certificate now offers more flexibility, more aircraft options, and a smoother entry into aviation while maintaining strong safety standards.
Under Mosaic, the definition of Light Sport Aircraft has expanded. Sport pilots can now fly a broader range of modern, capable aircraft that go beyond the previous weight and performance limits. Many aircraft that were previously restricted under the older rules are now included. This creates more training options and more choices once you become certificated.
You can complete your training faster than a traditional Private Pilot program, and it can be done without an FAA medical certificate. A valid U.S. driver’s license is enough to meet medical requirements as long as you comply with its health standards.
Prop Spinners Sport Pilot program follows all current Mosaic and FAA training requirements, including dual instruction, solo flight time, cross country navigation, and full checkride preparation. The goal is to get you flying confidently, safely, and legally under the expanded privileges now available.
What You Can Fly Under Mosaic
Mosaic rules allow Sport Pilots to operate a wider range of aircraft that meet updated Light Sport performance and safety criteria. This includes more advanced avionics, higher useful loads, and improved performance compared to the earlier generation of LSAs.
Privileges and Limitations
Sport Pilots can enjoy recreational flying in approved aircraft, carry one passenger, travel cross country, and operate in many areas of the National Airspace System. Some limitations still apply, such as no night flying, no operations above 10,000 feet unless appropriate training is completed, and no compensated or business related flying. Access to certain airspace may require additional instructor endorsements.
Training Requirements
A minimum of 20 total flight hours
At least 15 hours of dual instruction
At least 5 hours of solo flight, including the required solo cross country

aeronautical decision makingNo FAA medical certificate required if you hold a valid U.S. driver’s license
Why Choose the Sport Pilot Path
The Sport Pilot Certificate provides a cost effective, efficient way to begin flying while still offering access to modern aircraft and the freedom of recreational flight. With Mosaic expanding what is possible, the certificate is now more versatile than ever and a great way to launch your aviation journey.
What is a Sport Pilot Certificate?
It is an FAA certificate that lets you operate small, two seat light sport aircraft during daylight hours in good weather, offering a simplified path to becoming a pilot.
