Requirements
18 years minimum age requirement
Hold a minimum of a 3rd Class Medical
Hold an Instrument Rating
Accumulate 250 hours of total flight time
Complete 20 hours minimum of dual instruction
Pass FAA Computerized Written Exam with a minimum score of 70%
Pass your FAA Oral Exam & Checkride
Core Privileges
1. Act as PIC for compensation or hire
You can be paid to be the pilot in command of an aircraft, as long as the operation falls within regulations and does not require an ATP certificate.
2. Carry persons or property for compensation
This allows operations such as aerial photography, some charter work under Part 135, ferry flights, and cargo flights, provided you are operating under the correct part of the regulations.
3. Be paid for certain types of flying
Examples include:
Aerial tours (Part 91.147)
Ferry or repositioning flights
Banner towing operations
Aerial application, pipeline patrol, or powerline patrol
Aerial photography and survey
Search and rescue flights
Skydive jump pilot
Sightseeing flights with a Letter of Authorization
Part 135 operations if you also meet Part 135 requirements
